Police tighten security ahead of JAMB exams

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the strengthening of security deployment across examination centres nationwide ahead of the forthcoming Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, scheduled to begin on Thursday.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, noting that the measures were aimed at ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of candidates sitting for the examination.
According to him, the police are aware of recent unverified reports circulating on social media regarding alleged insecurity at some JAMB centres in parts of the North-East, but stressed that such claims are baseless.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that these claims are without basis,” he said.
Placid explained that although the force does not act on rumours, it takes public concerns seriously, especially those relating to the safety and future of students.
He stated that additional security personnel have been deployed to examination centres nationwide, both overtly and covertly, to prevent any security breaches.
He added that the enhanced arrangements include routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations.
According to him, the police are working closely with other security agencies to ensure effective monitoring and quick response to any emerging threats during the examination period.
“Any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified and brought to justice,” he warned.
The police spokesperson urged candidates to arrive early at their centres, comply with examination rules, and report any suspicious activity to security operatives on ground.
He also advised members of the public to disregard misinformation circulating online and rely only on official communications from JAMB and the Nigeria Police Force.
Placid reaffirmed the commitment of the force to maintaining peace and public confidence during national activities, including the conduct of the JAMB examination.
