king Charles tells U.S. congress actions matter more than words

King Charles III has addressed a joint session of the United States Congress, urging American lawmakers to recognise the global responsibility that comes with their country’s influence.

Speaking during a state visit to Washington, where he also met President Donald Trump at the White House alongside Queen Camilla, the British monarch focused on international cooperation, security challenges, and the importance of sustaining alliances in a shifting global order.

He told lawmakers that the United States holds a unique position in world affairs, adding that its decisions often carry consequences far beyond its borders.

“America’s words carry weight and meaning… the actions of this great nation matter even more,” he said.

The King cautioned that no single country could manage today’s global challenges alone, pointing to issues such as ongoing conflicts and rising geopolitical tensions.

He called for continued partnership between allies, stressing the importance of unity in addressing shared threats.

“The challenges we face are too great for any one nation to bear alone,” he said, reinforcing the need for coordinated international responses.

He also referenced the long-standing relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, describing it as one that has evolved over centuries but must continue adapting to modern realities.

Defence cooperation and support for Ukraine were among the key areas he highlighted in his remarks.

King Charles called on both nations to remain committed to shared democratic values and to maintain an outward-looking approach in global affairs, emphasising continuity in the transatlantic partnership amid growing global uncertainty.
