Cape Verde Reach World Cup Last 32 After Saudi Draw

Cape Verde have secured a historic place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 after a tense 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia in their final Group H match on Saturday.
The World Cup debutants needed just a point to keep their qualification hopes alive and produced a disciplined defensive display to frustrate Saudi Arabia, who required a win to stay in the competition.
Saudi Arabia controlled possession for long spells and pushed for a breakthrough, but were repeatedly denied by a resolute Cape Verde defence and goalkeeper Vozinha, who delivered several key saves to preserve the stalemate.
Cape Verde also carried a threat on the counterattack, with Jamiro Monteiro and Kevin Pina testing the Saudi defence in the second half, but neither side could find the decisive goal.
The draw, combined with Spain’s 1-0 win over Uruguay in the other Group H fixture, confirmed Cape Verde’s qualification to the knockout stage as runners-up behind Spain.
Saudi Arabia exit the tournament at the group stage after failing to secure the victory needed to progress.
For Cape Verde, the result marks a historic milestone as they advance to the Round of 32 in their debut World Cup appearance, praised for their organisation, discipline, and resilience throughout the group stage.
