The Nigerian Army has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent recruitment advertisement circulating online, claiming applications have opened for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC) Course 50/2027.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, described the advertisement as fake and urged members of the public not to fall victim to scammers behind it.
She stressed that the Army had not announced any recruitment exercise for the course and warned prospective applicants against making payments to individuals or websites posing as recruitment agents.
According to Anele, the advertisement is false, fraudulent and unauthorised.
She reaffirmed that every Nigerian Army recruitment and commissioning exercise is conducted free of charge, transparently and strictly on merit.
The spokesperson explained that genuine recruitment notices are published only through national newspapers, the Nigerian Army’s verified social media platforms and other official communication channels.
She added that “no application form is sold and no individual or agent is authorised to facilitate recruitment or demand payment at any stage of the process.”
Anele disclosed that security agencies had been directed to track down those responsible for creating and circulating the fake advertisement.
She warned that anyone found using the false recruitment notice to defraud Nigerians would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Army also advised the public to verify recruitment information through its official channels and report any suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest military formation or security agency.
