Army declares soldier wanted over alleged sale of military uniforms to terrorists
The Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC) has declared one of its personnel, Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, wanted over allegations that he was involved in the illegal sale and supply of military uniforms to terrorists and other criminal groups.
In a statement issued by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, NAOC, Major Oluwatope Aluko, the Corps said preliminary investigations showed that Amutu, who was attached to the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, absconded from his unit on June 3, 2026.
The statement said military authorities have commenced efforts to locate and apprehend the soldier to enable a full investigation and possible disciplinary action in accordance with military regulations.
The Army Ordnance Corps described the alleged offence as a serious breach capable of undermining national security, stressing that it would not tolerate any action that compromises the integrity, reputation or operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.
The Corps stated, “Any personnel found to have aided terrorists, criminals or other non-state actors through the unauthorised sale, diversion or distribution of military uniforms, accoutrements or other controlled items will be subjected to the full weight of military and civil laws.”
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and indiscipline, the Corps said it would continue to strengthen internal control measures to prevent the misuse of military resources and protect sensitive equipment from falling into the hands of criminal elements.
The Army appealed to members of the public to assist ongoing efforts by providing credible information that could lead to Amutu’s arrest, urging anyone with relevant details to report to the nearest military formation or security agency.
The NAOC assured Nigerians of its commitment to accountability, professionalism and transparency, adding that all allegations of misconduct would be thoroughly investigated and anyone found responsible would face appropriate sanctions.
